Swimmers Make Waves At GMC Championships

The GMC Swimming and Diving Championship was held on January 31st and February 1st at Mason High School where the Big Blue swim and dive team posted impressive results. The Girl’s Team placed 8th in the GMC beating out Middletown and Princeton which is the highest place the girls team has had in over 20 years. The boys had a disappointing disqualification in their final 400 Freestyle Relay which put them in 9th place. Our Senior diver, Nicholas Cafarelli, placed 4th in the diving competition scoring the team 15 points which carried into Saturday’s swim meet.
Right from the start, the team came ready to swim and compete. The girl’s 200 Medley Relay dropped an impressive 4 seconds for a new time of 2:12.60 while the boy’s 200 Medley Relay followed up with a 5 second drop and a new time of 2:04.56. Senior Meghan Garry dropped 3 seconds in her 200 Freestyle while sophomore Jakob Moore dropped 8 in his 200 race. Senior sprinters Aryonna Blue and Seth Vauter dropped time in their 50 Freestyle while Owen Bullard swam a new time of 23.56 in the 50 placing him 13th overall. Freshman Crystal Lawrence had a standout performance in her 100 Freestyle with a new time of 1:00.46 while Senior Micah Bridge dropped 6 seconds in his 100. Backstrokers Lindsey Flenner and Nicholas Cafarelli had impressive time drops in the 100 Backstroke with new times of 1:13.02 and 1:02.72 while Freshman Breaststroker Sophia Mignery swam an incredible 1:21.57.
The Girl’s 200 Freestyle relay was an impressive swim in which Sophia Mignery, Meghan Garry, Lindsey Flenner, and Crystal Lawrence powered over Colerain, Fairfield, and Middletown with a new time of 2:01.92 while the Girl’s 400 Freestyle relay dominated over Middletown, Fairfield, and Princeton with a new time of 4:29.61.
The team’s final meet is this Friday and Saturday at the Ohio High School Sectional Tournament held at Keating Natatorium in Cincinnati, OH. Go Big Blue!
