This weekend, the boys and girls swim team competed at the Southwest Ohio Sectional Tournament at Keating Natatorium. Both teams worked extremely hard the past two weeks to taper and prepare for the final meet of the season which paid off. The boys competed Friday night with top performances by Owen Bullard who PR’d in the 100 freestyle with a 55.79. Nicholas Cafarelli dropped time in the 200 freestyle for a 2:29.61 and the 100 back (1:13.86). Tanner Hamblin performed at his best in the 50 free (27.70) and 100 back (1:19.90). Alex Hoelle placed in the top 20 in the 100 breaststroke (1:10.32). Austin Ryan dropped 5 seconds in the 100 free and 2 seconds in the 50. Senior Keegan Warren finished his season strong with a best time in the 100 free (1:06.07). The boys 200 Medley (Cafarelli, Hoelle, Bullard, Warren) and 400 Free relay (Bullard, Hamblin, Cafarelli, Hoelle) scored points for the team and both improved their overall times. The boys look forward to training in the spring and fall in preparation for next season.
The girls performed on Saturday and competed well. Junior Hannah Venerable dropped 7 seconds in the 200 free (2:47.19) and 5 seconds in the 100 free (1:14.54). Aryonna Blue dropped time in the 100 back and 50 free. Niki Contreras and Kylee Rice both had significant time drops in the 50 (40.43, 39.74)) and 100 freestlye (1:30.35, 1:30.06). Olivia Lowry and Megan Garry both beat their best times in the 100 breaststroke (Lowry – 1:31.77) and 200 freestyle (Garry – 3:03.05). To round out the day, the girls 400 freestyle relay placed 9th overall and dropped 4 seconds for a time of 5:17.30. Coaches Wagner and DeHoff are incredibly proud of all of the swimmers and can’t wait to continue training for new and returning swimmers. Check back in the spring for dates and times.
