The Hamilton boy’s basketball team suffered a 45-39 loss at the hands of Lakota East High School Friday night. Inaccurate shooting was the downfall of the Big Blue. The team falls to 10-10 on the season and 7-7 in the Greater Miami Conference.
The Thunderbirds came out strong in the first half holding onto the lead to 23-15 going into halftime. Lakota East held Hamilton to only 9 points in the second quarter. Hamilton shot 35.3% in the field as compared to Lakota East’s 52.9% in the first half of the game.
The Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2017 was presented at halftime. Members will be inducted at the banquet on Saturday, February 11th at the Fitton Center for Creative Arts. The social hour will begin at 6:00 PM and the dinner will follow promptly at 7:00 PM. Tickets are $30 and can be purchased in the Hamilton HS Athletic Department. Coming into the second half of play, Hamilton defense began to step up, however, Lakota East was able to maintain the lead at the end of the third quarter, 39-26. The Thunderhawks shooting percentage decreased to 50% in the second half of play while Hamilton’s increased to 40%.
The Big Blue continued to battle in the fourth quarter. With 2:26 remaining in game play, sophomore guard Daniel Brunck sunk a three pointer bringing Hamilton within five of Lakota. After senior forward Hunter Hamilton fouled and Lakota East missed the free throw, the Big Blue had the momentum they needed. With less than one minute to go, Brunck passed to senior guard Daizure Morris who nailed a big three, bringing the score to 41-39.
Unfortunately, that would be the last time the Big Blue scored. Lakota East was able to out rebound and after sinking free throws, the Thunderhawks were able to secure the win, 45-39.
The Big Blue are set to travel to Colerain High School Feb. 14 at 7:30 p.m.
