The Hamilton girl’s basketball team was defeated by Mason High School 63-37 Saturday afternoon. The Big Blue fall to 0-8 overall and 0-5 in the conference. Mason improves to 8-0 overall and 6-0 in the conference.
Hamilton was able to get on the board first when sophomore center Makayla Rogers got the rebound and put it up for two. Mason then went on a 12-0 run. Junior guard Desuela Rodriguez stopped the run with a quick lay up bringing the score to 12-4 with 2:25 remaining in the first quarter. Hamilton was able to score off a lay-up to end the quarter 15-6.
The Big Blue’s shot went cold in the second quarter going the full eight minutes without scoring. Mason was able to capitalize on the missed shots pulling their lead to 21-6 going into halftime.
Hamilton continued to fight in the second half, despite multiple fouls and missed shot. The Big Blue was able to put up 25 points going 10-29 in the second half as compared to 5-18 in the first half.
Head Coach Harry Phillips said: “I think the team we’re capable of being showed in the second half. I think we have to understand maintaining consistency through four quarters and not try to do something that we haven’t coached. Overall, I’m proud of my kids for how [they] played today.”
Rodriguez led the team with 16 points shooting 4-6 from the three point line. She said: “We need to improve on our teamwork overall. I feel like if we play better defense and move the ball around better on offense we could get a win.”
