Edward Collins competed in the Division I Southwest District Wrestling Tournament last week at Trent Arena at Kettering Fairmont High School. Eddie was able to string together a great performance there, where he qualified for the Ohio State Wrestling Tournament in Columbus which is being held Thursday, March 3rd through Saturday, March 5th.
In qualifying, Eddie beat his first foe from Troy High School 17-13. In the quarterfinals he ran into a returning state qualifier and 8th ranked wrestler in the state from Oak Hills that beat him the first time we met previously this year. However, Eddie dismantled Buis 14-13 to move into the Championship Semifinals. In the Championship Semifinals Eddie was handed his first loss of the tournament by a nationally ranked wrestler from Mason. Eddie then dropped down to the Consolation Semi-Finals round, aka the blood round, which paved his destiny for and his road to Columbus. Eddie battled to a 5-4 win beating his opponent from Elder. In the Consolation Finals, Eddie dropped another close match 10-6 to Dylan Buis, which gave Eddie a much deserved 3rd place finish.
Eddie will begin state tournament wrestling on Thursday night in Columbus at approximately 5:30 PM and wrestle throughout the weekend.
Good luck, Eddie! We are #HAMILTONPROUD of you!
