The Associated Press Southwest All-District Football Team was announced on November 19. This team is selected by a panel of state sports reporters. Hamilton had four members selected to this team.
Senior A’Shon Riggins was selected to the First Team. Prior to the season starting, Riggins committed to Indiana University to continue his football career. During his senior season, Riggins had 52 catches for 805 yards and six touchdowns. He also added 257 yards rushing with four touchdowns. On Defense, Riggins had 41 tackles (20 solo), two tackles for loss and one interception.
Senior Steve Cunningham (QB), Junior Vince Sanford (WR) and Junior Eric Jackson (RB/LB) were all named honorable mention All-Southwest District.
Steve Cunningham broke over 10 school records during his two seasons at the helm of the Big Blue Offense. During his senior season, Cunningham threw for 2,373 yards and 17 touchdowns; both of those are single season school records. For his career, Cunningham threw for 3,641 yards, which ranks second in school history. Cunningham finished his career as the career total yardage leader with 4,035 total yards (3,641 passing, 61 receiving and 333 rushing).
Vince Sanford is a two year starter at Wide Receiver. During his junior season, Sanford had 43 catches for 662 yards and seven touchdowns. The seven touchdowns in a season ties a school record. Sanford has set the school record for career receptions, with 90 receptions. Sanford currently ranks third in career receiving yards with 1,151 yards receiving.
Eric Jackson played a variety of positions for Big Blue. Jackson earned All GMC Honors at linebacker but also played running back, quarterback, defensive back and served as the team’s punter. For the season Jackson had 262 yards rushing on 53 carries with two touchdowns and 187 yards receiving on 22 catches. On defense, Jackson added two sacks, three fumble recoveries, one forced fumble, four tackle for loss and one interception. Finally, Jackson averaged 35.7 yards a punt.
